Anti-Zen lesson 2

When I wrote my first post on Anti-Zen I didn’t realize I had more bit of wisdom to share. Today's lesson is about feeling free to be yourself. In Zen philosophy you should detach yourself from others' opinions. As you allow yourself to be free you inspire others to be free. Isn’t that lovely? It never helped me, not once. I have writer brain. This means that I can get to a place where I am imagining all the different inner dialogs strangers could be having about me. Of course they care about...

Regular Guys

Regular Guys is a movie from Germany about a cop, Christoph, having a truly hideous day. In true macho style he gets drunk and wakes up naked next to another equally naked gay man. Christoph doesn’t know what he’s done, is confused about who he is, and what he wants. Of course Edgar doesn’t help much with his constant flirting. I liked this movie. It’s not a faced-paced movie, but slow and steady as Christoph figures out his life. One of the things I do like about German movies is that they...

Yuck- he’s perfect

The perfect guy is boring! I ranted recently about female characters, now it’s time for a go at heroes. Why are they suddenly always perfect? Especially in YA I see heroes with perfect abs, control of their tempers and hormones, money, understanding of their emotions, smell good, and get good grades! The perfect boy to bring home to mom. Where is the growth? Yes, the heroine is the focus of the story, but, um, he can grow too. And even if he doesn’t, does he need to be perfect? Can't he suck...

High Maintenance Wife

I am a very high maintenance wife. I’m not expensive, I just require a lot of time and attention. A LOT. Anyway, one of the multitude of things my husband does for me is hide his finger nails. Not always. I’m fine with regular finger nails. However my husband is a landscaper. He designs and creates amazing Japanese gardens. In his work, Rod has to move boulders. Frequently the boulders fight back, and his fingers and toes get squished. He’s even broken some, and inevitably one or more of his...

ROW80 update

I didn't do too bad this week. 5 out of 7 days I made my 1000 word count- not getting on the internet helps a lot. I'll continue with this goal. I did write a first lesson, but it's weak. So for this week I'll work on lesson 2 and see if I can make lesson 1 stronger. I checked out a lot more then three review sites and sent in requests for 5 sites. I haven't heard anything back yet. I hope this means they are busy and not rejecting my story. Ah the fragile ego of a writer. I will check out at...

Come visit me!

Bill Jones Jr. has graciously interviewed me on his blog. I meant to post about it yesterday- but life gets crazy so easily and my to-do list grows while I sleep. Come and see it here

Chocolate, Sex, Sheep, and the Vicar

Ha ha made you look 🙂 The Vicar of Dibley No, no, no, no, uh yes. Okay, pee before you watch this.Seriously, this is your warning: pee before watching this show. Dawn French plays a sexy, bodacious vicar in a stuffy old-fashioned English town with some of the quirkiest characters ever to grace the screen! I first watched this on Christmas Eve four years ago. I was up all night wrapping gifts, because the holidays are more fun if you’re freaking out. I laughed so hard I almost woke up the...

Little Women, Discovery, and Bill Jones Jr

Today I am hanging out with Bill Jones Jr. I have met many wonderful people as I have begun blogging, and I have to admit that Bill is one of my favorites. He's blog post range from funny to profound- and frequently both at once. Bill Jones, Jr. assumed from an early age that he would be a photographer when he grew up. From age 12, he could be found bicycling around the streets of downtown Hampton, Virginia, camera in hand. Already an avid Science Fiction and Fantasy buff, at age ten, he was...

Bitches or Subs:Where are all the normal women in fiction?

Okay I know this rant doesn’t cover ALL books, and of course I don’t mean yours 🙂 But seriously I’m getting a bit tired of reading books where the women either fall into a submissive housewife role as soon as they have a steady guy or are rude bitches pretending to be strong. Does no one remember Captain Janeway? Strong, competent, sexy, and sensitive? Wow! A whole person who’s also a woman in power. Are we sure it can be possible? Or how about ANY of Joss Whedon’s female characters? A more...

S&M Barbies

So some of you might remember the tribute to my son when he turned 17. Well, my daughter also deserves a post because she’s very entertaining and the opposite of my son. This makes parenting interesting since I never have to deal with the same issues twice. Tala is amazingly creative, she writes rockin’ poetry, she loves to create stories, and just like her mom, she is a total pantser. This drives her teacher, who wants her to plot, insane. Her awesomeness doesn’t stop there, she sings, too. I...
