I am re-posting this because 1- I have a lot more friends now *waves to you all* and 2- Season Two of Sherlock starts Sunday night on PBS!!!!!! I am so excited.
I LOVE Sherlock Holmes stories from the old Basil Rathbone to the new Robert Downey Jr.- I am also ashamed to admit I’ve never read the books but I do plan to. Anyway the BBC show Sherlock is an modern Sherlock Holmes story. Watson was hurt in Afghanistan, and he’s competent not a bumbling fool- which I like. Sherlock is seriously off, his social skill are very lacking and he’s fully aware of this.
I think this Sherlock is more aware of exactly who and what he is then any of the others. As I was preparing this blog it occurred to me that people with social issues have a much harder time now then they would have at the turn of the century. When the original Sherlock Homes was set social behavior was very regulated, you spoke to woman in a certain way, and men of standing in a certain way, and servants in a certain way, and those with social difficulties simply had to learn those rules and no one noticed they were faking it.
In our modern world those rules don’t exist. Sure there is the polite way to act- but so few people bother with that. So how does someone with social issues function? They become ‘outcasts’ or ‘the odd ones’ they learn and mimic people and accept they aren’t as flexible going from one group to another- Dexter. They work from home, they jump from job to job because they can’t get along with others. Some are geniuses and excused from having to be socially functional- Big Bang Theory.
I work with kids who have been removed from their homes by CPS and a huge part of my job- other then basic hygiene- is social skills. Giving people space, being aware of voice tone, reading body language, and speaking politely. Some kids are young enough or versatile enough that they will learn and fit in well. Some kids are faking it. Some I don’t have the skills to help.
Anyway back to Sherlock. These are all new cases- and his skills have been updated to match modern technology. And the guys are hot- sorry I was trying not to objectify them, but it’s me 🙂 I like hot guys. I want to tell you more- but I don’t want to ruin anything. This really is a unique Sherlock. I enjoyed it so much that I will be watching it over and over again. In fact I just rented it so I can watch Season One before the new one starts Sunday- yes I am that much of a Geek.
Here’s a clip of Sherlock- it’s short but fun- he has a lot of great lines.
And the trailer for Season Two!!!!!
Yea! It’s a great series and written by the guy who wrote Dr Who and I knew that by just watching the first episode of the first series!
I loved Jeremy Brett in the Sherlock series done in the late eighties/nineties. He’s my ultimate Sherlock. But Ben here does a pretty good job! And the end is a cliffhanger and very clever.
Russel T Davis is amazing! I looked him up on IMDB and was shocked at how many things he’s written and directed that I didn’t even know about. I will have to catch up.
Glad you re-posted this, Alica. I much prefer this to “men with sexy abs” posts. 😉 Nothing wrong with digging hot guys, of course… Just love that you dig guys of substance. I could totally see Sherlock crushing on you!
I try not to discriminate in my ogling and fantasizing of men. There are all sorts of attributes that make men hot, And I like to savor all of them 🙂 *squee* I would love it if he was crushing on me! (fades into fantasy land)
Oh this is a great series. Can’t wait to watch Sunday night! Thanks Alica!
I’m gonna tickle your toes! LOL! Just kidding! 🙂
I’m so excited! *covers toes*
That looks really fun! I LOVE cop shows and mystery shows, so this is right up my alley. But, how do you watch a BBC show? I have the basic form of cable. 🙂
PBS is going to show Season Two starting Sunday- and it’s popular enough you should be able to find it at a video store- but Netflix definitely! I hope you get a chance to watch it.
Good news for you: the original Sherlock Holmes stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle are free for download to your Kindle from Amazon. How cool is that?
Those were some of the first books I downloaded!
Alicia- While Jeremy Britt is Sherlock Holmes personified. I LOVE THIS SHERLOCK. Watched Sunday and was surprised I didn’t wake Michael up as I tend to talk to the tv. I can not wait for him to see it. Until then I have to keep my mouth shut. Don’t want to ruin it for him.
Wasn’t it fabulous!
It was! We don’t have a DVR but luckily PBS will have it on its website. That’s how he’ll catch it.
My family loves this series, Alica! My husband and son are excited to watch season two. We saw the first season through Netflix. I love the way the tale has been modernized, but the characters and cases are still intact. And yes, you should read the books!
