So some of you might remember the tribute to my son when he turned 17. Well, my daughter also deserves a post because she’s very entertaining and the opposite of my son. This makes parenting interesting since I never have to deal with the same issues twice.
Tala is amazingly creative, she writes rockin’ poetry, she loves to create stories, and just like her mom, she is a total pantser. This drives her teacher, who wants her to plot, insane.
Her awesomeness doesn’t stop there, she sings, too. I placed her for voice lessons with a college student who is earning his doctorate in vocal performance. She plays the piano and composes her own songs. She takes musical theater class, and she likes to design clothes.
We did buy her a sewing machine but we need to get her sewing lessons. So right now her favorite medium is duct tape. Yes, duct tape, which she uses to make what I call S&M Barbies. She doesn’t know what S&M means, thank goodness. She wraps her dolls in a variety of duct tape which looks like vinyl S&M gear. It’s hysterical and bit worrying.
Tala is great, but I won’t lie: I am equally and excited and scared of what comes next for her and us.
And in honor of Tala one of her favorite Bollywood songs
I really wish I knew what they were saying in that song! Why do they mix just enough English in to tease? And I’m pretty sure those outfits came from the ’80s ;-). Bollywood is so much fun! And I had no idea you could do that with duct tape. It really does do everything, doesn’t it!
If you watch the movie- Dhoom2 one of the funniest Bollywood movies ever- they have subtitles. The lyrics are as cheesy as one would think. Duct tape is the best!
That’s just awesome.
Isn’t it great! She’s pretty cool.
Your daughter is obviously very talented and has a ton of artistic endeavors she’s already accomplished. She’s still so young, who knows what path she’ll walk down eventually. We always wonder where our kids are headed but I’m sure the typical road will not be to her liking. And being different is a great thing.
Patti
Thanks Patti- I have no idea where she’ll wind up- right now she wants to be a marine biologist. LOL!
Some of those dolls look like they’re taken right out of The Fifth Element. I love it! It sounds like your daughter is going to have some really awesome things ahead of her (and sounds like a good person to call if I ever need costumes for some cool sci-fi flick)!
If I didn’t have such a dirty mind I would have thought of the Fifth Element! I hope to find someone to teach he rto use ehr sewing machine so she might be ready to make costumes soon.
Those are great! Wait ’til she realizes she can add piercings and tattoos with a fine point Sharpie 😀
We haven’t gotten sharpie tattoos yet, but she has drawn on them with markers- she uses the washable ones to color their hair! Thanks Taryn
I love the duct tape Barbies! My sons think duct tape is the best thing ever. They actually got a roll of it in their Christmas stocking.
Cool Bollywood song and, though I could never pull it off, I’m rather in love with that orange dress in the video.
We give duct tape in stocking too! This year it had patterns- mine was red with black dragons.
I bet you could work the dress 🙂 I love the way the woman are strong- you can see muscles, but their bellies are still soft.
Our kids’ duct tape was Texas A&M and UT-Longhorn themed (they support different teams, of course). And I do indeed have a “soft belly” (a nice way to phrase it). 😉
I haven’t seen the sports themed ones- I’ll have to go shopping now. I’m hoping if I keep working out I’ll get down to a soft belly!
Walmart. LOL
I had no idea duct tape came in such an array of vibrant colors.
Colors and patterns- duct tape is awesome. Thanks Mike.
I had a neighbor who used to do this to barbies – I will never forget her spider barbie that was covered in black duct tape.
What an amazing artist you have 🙂
Thank you- Spider Barbie sounds pretty cool
Thanks Asrai!
